The Shin Jin-O Tournament is open to all professional 7p or lower. The preliminary tournament is a knockout of 32 players (including the previous title-holder). The title is decided in a best-of-three final. Thinking time is 5 hours, komi is 5.5 points.

Japanese Shinjin O Tournament:

From this year (2006), Japanese Shinjin O tournament only opens to players who are below 25-year-old (instead of 30). This is to make sure that only truely young stars are qualified. Its preliminary tournament is now open to all qualified players from Nihon Kiin and Kansai Kiin. A second major change is that the playing time in the main tournament is reduced to 3 hours for each player (instead of 4 hours), making it compatible with all major international tournament.
